The task of reconciling the 'Picture This!' database and file system is nearly complete! It may take a while longer to get the entire photo library and the accompanying captions humming.
Volume Album Event Rivers Black River - VT Black River Fest 7-7-07
The event was well organized, with live entertainment, food and drink, and a bunch of sidewalk booths promoting conservation and eco-tourism. There was one really cool display of a perpetually flowing river through a "valley" of fishbowl gravel, and this was used to demonstrate how rivers, over time, change their course and sometimes wreak havoc with man-made structures built near a riverbank.
The falls directly beneath the bridge were so high and bony that they were impassible in kayaks at this low summer level. It would be treacherous at high water, too. However...
This stretch, bony as it was, offerred a route down through, once you've convinced the local police that you know what you are doing and once you trespass above the dam for your otter slide into the river (on river left). In order to take these pictures I was able to stand in an abandoned mill building and hang out of a window with my cell phone camera.
It beats portaging...
The last slide.
