The task of reconciling the 'Picture This!' database and file system is nearly complete! It may take a while longer to get the entire photo library and the accompanying captions humming.
Volume Album Event Rivers Boreas River (NY) May 19, 1996
The Boreas R. put-in lives up to its name. We were running the river for the first time May 19, 1996, and were relieved to find it running at a low but boatable -0.5 feet on the painted gauge at the Northwoods Club Road bridge.
A couple class II rapids give way to Lester Flow, which is quickwater for a mile or more. Pictured are Wright and Tim, surfing the remnants of Lester dam.
Eric entering a class III chute on the upper river, which was straightforward at this level. In high water this narrow cleft would be quite turbulent.
Finding the "sweet spot" in a serpentine rapid below Rt. 28. Aside from 3 fishermen at the highway bridge, we had the river entirely to ourselves all day.
Praying for miracles at the 6 foot drop - Boreas R. below Rt. 28.
Hewitt Eddy offers a stillwater "breather". We were blessed with sunshine and 80-85 degree temps, a rare combination in May in the Adirondacks.
End of film. The rapids below (no pictures) were considerably steeper. Imagine...the Deerfield Dryway...all to yourself !!!
